Getting Started as a volunteer
Skiing will never be the same once you have given someone who is blind or has the low vision the experience of a lifetime. Become a volunteer ski guide or shadow and watch the transformation our VIPs go through after even just one day on the slopes. Our Foresight guides are just that, guides. We leave the instruction to the pros at the Vail Adaptive Ski School. Foresight guides and shadows lead our VIPs around the mountain taking them on terrain that is appropriate for their skiing ability. We have VIPs of all ability levels from greens to black diamonds. Yes blind skiers on black diamonds!
Foresight's training program is comprehensive focusing on safety for our VIPs and our guides. Typically new guides start as shadows, skiing behind the VIP and guide keeping an eye on the general public and making sure there is space between them and our VIPs. Guides lead the VIPs down a run through a series of verbal commands. It's a team effort to ensure every VIP has a positive experience while skiing or riding at Vail or Beaver Creek.
Consider joining us. Not only will you ski for free, but you'll be rewarded knowing you've helped to improve the quality of life of someone who is blind or has low vision.
Guiding or shadowing isn't the only way to get involved with Foresight Adventure Guides for the Blind. There are a number of other volunteer opportunities off the hill that are equally as important and gratifying. Please consider helping any way you can.
